If you get the chance to take the Circle Line Best of New York Hudson River cruise, – do it. A real highlight and two and a half hours of sheer wonder, entertaining and informative commentary and a completely different perspective of NYC from the water. Having become quite comfortable with the streets and locations of major sites over 3 days on and off buses, this side of the city was really the icing on the cake.
Bridges upon bridges, islands, rubbish and reclamation, sport and residential, historic landmarks and modern social experiments….a feast!
The iconic Empire State was impressive and the weather was kind.
Walking the streets was really a pleasure…so much noise, gum on the pavements, conxstruction sites and food vans to soak up. Strangely enough, there was no real incentive to shop. Times Square was the anticipated mass of squirming bodies either trying to make a buck or to avoid those selling their wares. Quietly enjoying the differences in language and the subtleties often overlooked by work weary New Yorkers.
Life is amplified in the city canyons between the skyscrapers competing for the dollar. This apple’s certainly got crunch.
